From Rotterdam to West Virginia, Dutch national pop treasures The Hermes House Band put a lively spin on this John Denver classic, adding to their cache of popular cover songs that includes "Que Sera Sera" and "I Will Survive." Sealing their stomping version of "Take Me Home, Country Roads" with a crowd-pleasing sing-along chorus and a swinging dance-pop beat that plays around with tempo, the group—who were formed in 1982 by members of the Rotterdamsch Studenten Corps, a fraternity/sorority in Rotterdam, Netherlands—scored their biggest hit in the UK to date with "Country Roads." The group went to number seven on the UK Singles Chart with their rendition of the 1970s classic and stuck around in the Top 10 for five weeks. They also reached the summit of the Scottish Singles Chart. "Take Me Home, Country Roads," or "Country Roads," was written by Bill Danoff, Taffy Nivert and John Denver and popularised by the latter in single form in 1971.
