Originally called"Damaged," "Seventeen" is the third song of the second act of the Off-Broadway version of the rock musical Heathers: The Musical. Based on the 1989 black comedy of the same name, the musical was first presented in Los Angeles in 2013 and then moved to Off-Broadway the following year, spawning a cast album titled Heathers: The Musical (World Premiere Cast Recording) released in June 2014. Featuring the voices of Barrett Wilbert Weed (Veronica Sawyer) and Ryan McCartan (Jason "J.D." Dean), "Seventeen" is a plea from Veronica to JD to stop murdering people and live like normal teenagers. According to the authors, what sets the song apart from the rest of the tracks in the album is an unexpected minor chord change and a missing-beat phrase in the chorus. Towards the end of the album, "Seventeen" gets a reprise version, interpreted by Barrett Wilbert Weed, Alice Lee, Katie Ladner, and Elle McLemore.
