Gayle's uber-catchy, deliciously angsty pop juggernaut "Abcdefu" was one of 2021's biggest and boldest anthems, with its unifying sing-a-long smash of a chorus. "A-B-C-D-E, F you / And your mom and your sister and your job / And your broke-ass car and that shit you call art / Fuck you and your friends that I'll never see again / Everybody but your dog, you can all fuck off," shouts the Atlantic Records signee on her major-label debut. "Abcdefu" was a chart success, making it Number 11 on Billboard Hot 100 while also achieving Number one positions in Finland, Germany, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, and the UK as well as reaching the Top 10 in Australia, Austria, New Zealand, and Switzerland. Aged just 17, Gayle is one of the youngest acts to bag a UK Number 1 single, and the third under-18 chart topper in less than two years, following Jawsh 685 and Olivia Rodrigo. "Abcdefu" followed a clutch of singles in 2020, including mellower acoustic confessional, "happy for you."
