Garth Brooks has a deep catalog of chart-topping hits but "The Dance" is his personal favorite. The song, written by Tony Arata, explores the concept that it’s only by not knowing how things might turn out that we can open ourselves up to taking a chance on experiencing life. Brooks credits the double-header of "The Dance" followed by "Friends in Low Places" for his breakthrough as a country music superstar. He told Playboy magazine in a 1994 interview, "The Dance" will be the greatest success as a song we will ever do. I'll go to my grave with The Dance. It'll probably always be my favorite song." Songwriter Arata got his inspiration for the song from a scene in the film Peggy Sue Got Married when Kathleen Turner realizes she can’t alter a thing in her past without it affecting the rest of her life. "Our lives are better left to chance / I could have missed the pain / But I'd have had to miss the dance." The backing track for "The Dance" is available as an instrumental on Karaoke Version.

I didn't have any issue with the 1st version which sounded great as always, to me sounded more "country". This new version may be a better key for me - but the biggest change for me is the clearer orchestration - much fuller sound - with more instrumentation - while I like it - this new option gives me confusion. Do I delete the first or keep both. I guess the first will be preferential for country shows (rarely do them) the new maybe better in restaurants (I do 4-5 nights a week). It's nice...
