Since moving to Nashville from Oklahoma, the future country superstar worked at a boot store and sang demonstration vocals for songwriters. He’d sung thousands of songs but after recording the demo for “Friends in Low Places” he couldn’t get the chorus out of his head. The singer had just signed to Capitol Records and his debut album had already been recorded but he asked the songwriters Dewayne Blackwell and Earl Bud Lee if they could hold the song for him and they agreed. He included it on his second album No Fences and it became one of country music’s most popular songs of all time.
