Getting their start as a rock 'n' roll group in the '60s (when they scored their first hit, 1962 chart-topper "Sherry"), New Jersey-based vocal quartet Franki Valli & The Four Seasons weathered personnel changes and the changing seasons of popular music before enacting a stellar comeback in November 1975 with Who Loves You, showcasing the new lineup of John Paiva (guitar), Don Ciccone (bass), Lee Shapiro (keyboards) and Gerry Polci (drums). The LP's title track went to Number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart but hit the jackpot with "December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night)," a cheeky and celebratory disco-pop ditty about having sex for the first time ("Oh, what a night) / Hypnotizing, mesmerizin' me / She was everything I dreamed she'd be / Sweet surrender, what a night.") The track, which shot to Number 1 in the UK (marking a first for the band) and the US, was the group's fifth and final chart-topper in the US.
