When it comes to matters of the heart, Elton John is no fool. “Stop twinkling your star like you do", he cautions on this 1970s treatise against fakeness. Here, the British icon deploys silver screen metaphors to convey both fickle and fraudulent lovers and his sharp wit: "I'm not the blueprint for all of your B-films / Because I've seen that movie too". Featured on his seminal 1973 album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, which also gave us "Candle in the Wind", "Bennie and the Jets" and its epic title track, "I've Seen That Movie Too" is a panoramic and leisurely piano blues number with lyrics from Elton John's long-term songwriting partner Bernie Taupin. There's also a widescreen guitar solo from another of his long-time collaborators, Davey Johnstone. The song's cynical message reaches its conclusion in the chorus: "So keep your auditions for somebody / Who hasn’t got so much to lose / ’Cause you can tell by the lines I’m reciting / That I’ve seen that movie too".
