I’m Still Standing is a song by Elton John from his 1983 album Too Low for Zero. The superstar singer-songwriter had gone through a bit of a slump, releasing four albums to low sales. This album was an attempt to go back to basics, using his original backing band and using his longtime lyricist Bernie Taupin on all but one track. Known for his elaborate costumes and over-the-top stage personality, Elton John was an early believer in videos. The colorful, choreographed dance video for I’m Still Standing helped introduce a younger audience to the superstar on MTV which had only launched two years earlier. If the dancer in the black leotard looks familiar, it’s a very young Bruno Tonioli, a judge on Dancing with the Stars. Although most people interpret the song as a triumphant anthem of survival, Bernie Taupin said it was written as an angry sendoff to an ex-girlfriend. The backing track for "I'm Still Standing" is available with background vocals or as an instrumental on Karaoke Version.
