"Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" is a holiday standard written by J. Fred Coots and Haven Gillespie. In 1934, the song was turned into a sheet music hit by jazz musician and banjo virtuoso Harry Reser and his band, featuring vocals by Tom Stacks. By 1947, the track was already on its way to becoming a Christmas classic after legendary recording artist Bing Crosby delivered a big band jazz version with vocal group The Andrews Sisters, which peaked at Number 22 on the Billboard charts. During the 1960s, "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" was further popularized by a series of mainstream pop artists, including the Four Seasons, Phil Spector, The Supremes, and Ella Fitzgerald. Included in her first holiday album for Verve, Ella Wishes You a Swinging Christmas (1960), The Queen of Jazz's version of "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" was recorded with an orchestra arranged and conducted by American actor and composer Frank DeVol.
