After setting the world on fire with N.W.A. and their debut 1988 studio album, Straight Outta Compton, gangsta rap visionary Eazy-E (real name: Eric Lynn Wright) dropped his solo debut a few months later. Released in November 1988, Eazy-Duz-It is the only full-length solo album Eazy-E released before his untimely death on March 26, 1995 from complications related to HIV/AIDS. With its tough-as-nails rhymes ("'Cause the boys in the hood are always hard / You come talkin' the trash, we'll pull your card / Knowin' nothin' in life, but to be legit / Don't quote me, boy, 'cause I ain't said shit"), "Boys-n-the-Hood" was actually written by Ice Cube, who originally intended it to be for Ruthless Records group H.B.O., and samples Whodini’s “I’m A Ho,” with a minor variation. It was released as a single the year before the album came out in March 1987, and essentially paved the way for the success of N.W.A. and Straight Outta Compton.
