Eagles are known as one of the most successful acts in American rock music history, and their catalog is filled with a huge amount of hits. Trying to think of a single “signature song” for the group feels almost impossible; however, “Desperado,” the seminal song from the band’s 1973 album of the same name, is definitely a strong contender. A soft rock ballad with overt country influences, “Desperado” also marks the beginning of the songwriting partnership of Glenn Frey and Don Henley, as it was one of the first songs they fully collaborated on. Though “Desperado” became well-known as one of the Eagles' most beloved songs, it was never actually released as a single. The original version became a hit after Linda Ronstadt performed a cover of it. The song was ranked Number 494 on Rolling Stone's list of 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, and the Western Writers of America named it as one of the Top 100 Western songs of all time.
