Few songs can lay claim to a moment in time quite like Donna Summer’s “Hot Stuff.” The 1979 disco single, recorded for Donna Summer’s seventh studio album Bad Girls (1979), came at just the right time, at the height of disco’s popularity in the United States. With the roaring guitar that opens the track (not to mention the guitar solo by Steely Dan guitarist Jeff “Skunk” Baxter), the song could also pass for a rock and roll single, bridging the contentious divide between rockers and disco fans of the late 1970s. “Hot Stuff” was written by Pete Bellotte, Harold Faltermeyer, and Keith Forsey. It was produced by Pete Bellotte along with legendary Italian producer Giorgio Moroder. “Hot Stuff” was a tremendous success, remaining at Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for three non-consecutive weeks. The song was awarded the Grammy for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance and was listed by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
