"Baby, Won't You Please Come Home" became popular during the 1920s, first anointed by "Empress of the Blues" Bessie Smith in 1923 and quickly snowballing into a jazz standard propelled by a string of cover versions by a host of VIPs: Django Reinhardt in 1937, Louis Armstrong in 1939, Frank Sinatra in 1957, Billie Holiday in 1959, Sam Cooke in 1962, and many more. It's unclear who officially authored the song although it was thought to have been written by Charles Warfield and Clarence Williams in 1919 (Charles Warfield has alleged that he single-handedly composed the track). In 1964, Dean Martin put his name and velvet-smooth voice to "Baby, Won't You Please Come Home" with a rendition for his Jimmy Bowen-produced Dream With Dean album, which baked a success story in the chart-topping single "Everybody Loves Somebody," written by Sam Coslow, Irving Taylor, and Ken Lane and recorded with a quartet accompaniment.
