Originally penned by New York-born songwriter Irving Taylor in 1947 and taken on by none other than Frank Sinatra for a single in 1948, “Everybody Loves Somebody” eventually ripened into the Dean Martin-sized hit everybody knows and loves. The song’s simple loved-up message shoots straight from the hip: “Everybody loves somebody sometime / And although my dream was overdue / Your love made it well worth waiting / For someone like you,” croons Dean Martin, filling all those lonely hearts with hope. “Everybody Loves Somebody,” which went on to become one of Dean Martin’s signature tunes, is so inextricably linked with the crooner that his grave marker in LA bears its title. In fact, it was such a masterstroke for “The King of Cool” that his label, Reprise Records, decided to name a whole album after it. The “Everybody Loves Somebody” LP scaled the charts and struck gold, largely propelled by the success of its title track.
