British rock band Coldplay have released a wide array of hits over more than two decades of music-making. And while they started out as a Britpop-influenced pop-rock group with simple songs, they’ve become ever more ambitious and eclectic with each new release. Their 2021 song “Coloratura,” the closing track on the band’s ninth studio album Music of the Spheres, really puts that growth on full display. A psychedelic, progressive rock song that incorporates influences such as Pink Floyd and space rock, the song is also Coldplay’s longest track yet, clocking in at 10 minutes and 18 seconds. “Coloratura” was written by Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland, Will Champion, Chris Martin, Max Martin, Paris Strother, John Metcalfe, and Davide Rossi. It was produced by Max Martin, Oscar Holter, and Bill Rahko. It garnered strong critical acclaim and peaked at Number 34 on the US Billboard Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart.
