"Broken Halos" is a song by Chris Stapleton from his second studio album From a Room: Vol.1. The Kentucky-born singer says the southern gospel-tinged song is about people who die before their time. Stapleton recorded the song on the day a longtime friend lost his battle with pancreatic cancer at 38. The artist wrote the song with Mike Henderson. The two used to record together as part of the bluegrass band The SteelDrivers. Henderson was responsible for the title of this song. Well, actually Keith Richards is. Henderson was reading the Rolling Stones guitarist's autobiography and saw a chapter titled "Broken Halos". In it, Richards wrote about friends who had passed. Henderson brought the title idea to Stapleton and they wrote the song together. "Broken Halos" won the Grammy for Best Country Song and both Song of the Year and Single of the Year at the Country Music Association Awards.
