Pop music has a long tradition of ambiguous tell-offs, where musicians vent their frustrations at certain individuals while maintaining plausible deniability about their identities. Perhaps one of the most famous examples of this is Carly Simon’s 1972 mega-hit You’re So Vain,” which has inspired an incredible amount of speculation over the years. The song famously pulls no punches in its searing profile of a former lover, featuring the famous refrain “you’re so vain, you probably think this song is about you.” You’re So Vain was written by Carly Simon and recorded by producer Richard Perry, with orchestration by Paul Buckmaster. The song hit Number 1 in the US, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia, charting in several other countries and becoming Carly Simon’s biggest hit. It received three nominations at the 1974 Grammy Awards, for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. In 2004, the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

The bass intro is so, so. But other than that pretty good.

The 'improved' version is - in my humble opinion - better than the previous in most ways except one. The overall instrumentation sound and the guitar solo are much closer to the original and the non-fading ending is far better. But the newer introduction sounds too electronic and not true to the sound of the 1972 original. Overall, though, it is a definite improvement. Thank you.
