Coming on the heels of Blondie's massive chart-topping hit "Heart of Glass," "One Way or Another" was the fourth single from their platinum-selling third album Parallel Lines (1978). The music was composed by bass player Nigel Harrison in the vein of surf rock legends The Ventures and the lyrics were written by singer Debbie Harry, who drew inspiration from a previous experience with a stalker ex-boyfriend that forced her to move out of New Jersey. Shortly after its release, "One Way or Another" climbed to Number 24 on the Billboard Hot 100 and fared even better in Canada, reaching Number 7. In the years that followed, the track became a mainstay on the band's live repertoire and made its way into the albums The Best of Blondie (1981) and Blondie 4(0) Ever (2014), which included a re-recorded version. In 2013, the English boy band One Direction released a medley of "One Way or Another" with The Undertones' "Teenage Kicks" that went to Number 1 in the UK.
