"Shakedown" is a song recorded by American musician Bob Seger for the soundtrack of the 1987 comedy film Beverly Hills Cop II. It was written and produced by composer Harold Faltemeyer and Keith Forsey. Glenn Frey, who had previously scored a hit single with "The Heat Is On" from the original movie, was chosen to perform the song but fell ill with laryngitis before the recording process began. After being offered the opportunity to jump in on the track, Bob Seger decided he wasn't satisfied with the existing lyrics, so he re-wrote all the verses. "Shakedown" was officially released on May 23, 1987, and went straight to the top of the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Bob Seger's first and only Number 1 single on that chart. In 1988, the song received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song, but ended up losing to Dirty Dancing's "(I've Had) The Time of My Life." During the ceremony, "Shakedown" was performed live by rock and roll legend Little Richard.
