"Beauty and the Beast" is the eponymous theme tune to Disney's hit 1991 animated feature film and captures the memorable ballroom scene between Belle and the Beast. The song was sung in the film by Angela Lansbury, whose heartwarming delivery as the voice of Mrs. Potts melds showstopping theatricality with sage familiarity. "Tale as old as time / True as it can be / Barely even friends / Then somebody bends / Unexpectedly," she sings in the opening verse. Written by the late lyricist Howard Ashman and composer Alan Menken,"Beauty and the Beast" was brought to life by an orchestral score and featured on the Beauty and the Beast: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. The song won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song, Academy Award for Best Original Song and Grammy Awards for both Best Song Written for Visual Media and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. "Beauty and the Beast" was also rendered in pop colors by Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson, and released as the only single from the film's soundtrack on November 25, 1991.
