"Get Born Again" is one of the final two songs Alice in Chains recorded with their late vocalist Layne Stanley before his death in 2002. It was included on the compilation albums Music Bank (1999) and The Essential Alice in Chains (2006)."Get Born Again" finds the US grunge masters in angry and self-serious mode, and makes an apparent reference to the death of Layne Stanley's ex-girlfriend Demri Parrott, who tragically died of a drug overdose in 1998 ("Can you protect / Me when I'm wrecked / I pretend you're still alive"). Here, gloomy imagery ("I choose the day, one damp and gray / Thick fog that hide our smiles") is combined with jarring guitar tones and heavyset drums. In spite of its melancholic outlook, "Get Born Again" reached number four on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, number twelve on the Modern Rock Tracks chart, and was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance in 2000.
