AC/DC’s high-voltage classic rock staple “Highway to Hell” – the first of the band’s songs to chart in the US – is made for singing at the top of your lungs. Written by the Australian group’s hard-rock heroes Angus Young, Malcolm Young and late lead singer Bon Scott, this headbanging megahit explores the hell and hedonism of life on the road, with an instantly recognizable guitar riff kicking off the energy-packed song. On “Highway to Hell,”which was the nickname for the Canning Highway in Australia, Bon Scott sings of “living easy, living free,” and “taking everythin’ in my stride." Tragically, he died the following year on February 19, 1980 due to acute alcohol poisoning and the song took on a new meaning, bringing depth and poignancy to a beloved rock favorite.
