The Killers indulged their penchant for synth-powered stadium rock with their 2022 single "Boy," released nearly a year after their seventh studio album - the acoustic-heavy Pressure Machine - gave the band their seventh consecutive number one album on the UK Albums Chart, as well a number nine on the US Billboard 200, also marking their reunion with guitarist Dave Keuning. Produced by the band alongside Stuart Price and Shawn Everett, the shimmering Erasure-esque anthem "Boy" engages the listener with an autobiographical story (Brandon Flowers grew up in Nephi, Utah) that conveys the life of a young adult living in Utah, which is also the theme of Pressure Machine. "Don’t overthink it, boy / white arrows will break / the black night / don’t overthink it, boy," sings Brandon Flowers, showing off his compassionate side.
