"Looking For Somebody (To Love)" is a song from The 1975's fifth studio album, Being Funny in a Foreign Language (2022). It was written by lead singer Matty Healy and drummer George Daniel with American singer-songwriter Ilsey Juber and the band's touring keyboardist, Jamie Squire. Just like on the rest of the album, the production was handled by Matty Healy, George Daniel, and Jack Antonoff. Stylistically speaking, "Looking For Somebody (To Love)" is an '80s-inspired synthpop tune through and through, whose lyrics find vocalist Matty Healy trying to wrap his head around the gruesome phenomenon of mass shootings in the United States. Through its sardonic lyrics, the song exposes the dangers of fragile masculinity and the way society teaches young boys violence is the only way to assert dominance, often resulting in death and destruction. Even though it wasn't released as a promotional single, the song was pointed out by critics and fans as one of the album's standouts. Being Funny in a Foreign Language achieved both critical and commercial success, reaching Number 1 on the UK Albums Chart and Number 7 on the Billboard 200.
