By 1961, American singer Sam Cooke was well on his way to having a remarkable career in music. But the release of Bring It on Home to Me would secure his place as one of the greatest performers in pop music. Bring It on Home to Me was written by Sam Cooke as a reworked version of the 1959 Charles Brown worship song “I Want to Go Home.” It was produced by the American record-producing duo of Hugo Peretti and Luigi Creatore (commonly known as simply “Hugo & Luigi”). The single was released on May 8, 1962, and peaked at Number 2 on Billboard’s US Hot R&B Singles chart, as well as Number 13 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. It would also go on to become Sam Cooke’s signature song, as well as a pop music standard that has been covered by hundreds of artists from many genres (such as The Animals, John Lennon, Rod Stewart, Van Morrison, and The Chicks). It was also selected as one of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll.
