Van Morrison paid homage to a much-loved classic by soul saviour Sam Cooke on this live cover from 1974, which was one of the many gems packed into the legendary Northern Irish singer-songwriter's 1974 live album ..It's Too Late to Stop Now...Volume 1. Sam Cooke went to Number 2 on Billboard's Hot R&B Sides chart and Number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 with his self-penned gospel-centred track in 1962, which was produced by Hugo & Luigi and arranged and conducted by René Hall. The song presented a secular reworking of a spirituality-themed 1959 single by artists Charles Brown and Amos Milburn, originally titled "I Want to Go Home." As well as featuring the track on his 1974 live album, Van Morrison included a cover of "Bring It On Home To Me" on his 37th studio album released in 2017, Roll with the Punches, which also features covers of songs by Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Count Basie and T-Bone Walker.
