"Jerry Was a Race Car Driver" is a song from the funk metal band Primus. It's one of the band's most popular songs. Frontman Les Claypool said the inspiration for the song came from a guy he knew in school who always wanted to be a cop. "There's that certain faction of individual that wants to be a cop because they got picked on when they were younger and they just felt the need to be in a position of authority, an ”I'll show them" sort of thing. And this guy was one of those guys." The song tells the story of Jerry and his death by alcohol mixed with a telephone pole. The song includes a spoken sample of "Dog will hunt" from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 film.
