"Chicken Fried" is a single by American country music group Zac Brown Band, which frontman Zac Brown co-wrote with frequent collaborator Wyatt Durrette. Written over several years, "Chicken Fried" is an ode to the American South, its cuisine, and its laid-back, outdoorsy lifestyle. The song was originally released on the group's 2005 self-released album Home Grown and entered the charts for the first time in 2006 thanks to a cover version by The Lost Trailers. In 2008, after inking a deal with Atlantic Records, Zac Brown re-recorded "Chicken Fried" for their major-label debut, The Foundation. Shortly after its commercial release, the newly-recorded version became their breakthrough single by reaching the top of both the Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts. Later that year, "Chicken Fried" was featured in the crime comedy film Witless Protection. Since then, the track has achieved sextuple-platinum status in the United States and is now regarded as the group's signature song.
