Outlaw country music legend Waylon Jennings passed away in 2002 after suffering from health complications due to his diabetes. Two years before his death at the age of 64, he played an unforgettable concert at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville that took on new poignancy following his passing. The full performance was recorded for the concert film/album, Never Say Die: The Final Concert, where he was backed by the revered Waymore Blues Band, and joined onstage by his wife Jessi Colter, and guests John Anderson, Travis Tritt and Montgomery Gentry. "Drift Away" was originally written in 1970 by Mentor Williams and first recorded by John Henry Kurtz for his 1972 album Reunion. Initially conjured as a swamp rock roller, the soul-stirring track was transformed into a soul belter by Dobie Gray in 1973 and later covered by a host of artists including Bon Jovi, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, and more.
