Similar only in name to Mariah Carey's corking Christmas megahit, "All I Want For Christmas Is You" is a cherished 1990s country staple from New Orleans' premier novelty oddballs Vince Vance & the Valiants. With its melody largely based on Bobby Vinton's top 10 1964 hit single "My Heart Belongs to Only You," "All I Want For Christmas Is You"—which was first released in 1989 and made it onto Billboard’s country singles chart six times in the 1990s—sees the protagonist present her Christmas wishlist, much like Mariah Carey does in her own song. "You are the angel atop my tree / You are my dream come true / Santa can't bring me what I need / 'Cause all I want for Christmas is you," she sings. Funnily enough, Vince Vance (real name Andy Stone) later opened legal proceedings against Mariah Carey and Sony Music Corporation, claiming that Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You" ripped off their own version.
