Tyler Childers' life has been the inspiration for many of his songs. The country artist grew up in Lawrence Country, Kentucky. His father worked in the coal industry and his mother was a nurse. He has described his songs as short stories and "Bus Route" tells the story of a first crush “the prettiest little girl, same grade as me" who he'd see on the school bus driven by a tough character named Ray Dixon. "Ray Dixon didn't take no lip / He'd kick ya right off the bus / Stop by your house on the way out of the holler / And tell your momma where you was."
