An all-American tradition that harkens back to the 1920s, country music has also had a long-lasting impact on the rest of the world, influencing a whole generation of artists in places like Australia, Canada, the UK, and even non-English-speaking Europe. Such is the case of Truck Stop, a German country music act that was formed in Hamburg in the early 1970s. Although they began performing in English, the group had its biggest breakthrough in 1977 after they decided to switch to their native language. Hits like "Die Frau mit dem Gurt," "Ich möcht’ so gern Dave Dudley hör’n," and "Der wilde, wilde Westen" successfully translated the American country ethos into something German listeners could enjoy and even relate to. In 2009, Truck Stop released the live album Die größten Country-Medleys, which featured live versions of some of their biggest hits, as well as a medley of the Johnny Cash classics "San Quentin," "Walk the Line," and "Boy Named Sue."
