Following the album's ferocious five-minute opener, "Stinkfist" (the clue's in the name), Tool took a quieter detour for Ænema's, second track, veering off down the backstreets of glassy, xylophone-like percussion and stiller, weirder soundscapes that nonetheless still set your teeth on edge. After a two-minute instrumental, the guitars roll in, exploding with Maynard James Keenan's vocal: “He had a lot to say / He had a lot of nothing to say / We’ll miss him”. It's unclear who this tongue-in-cheek "Eulogy" is for, but theories range from Jesus of Nazareth ("Come down / Get off your fuckin' cross / We need the fuckin' space / To nail the next fool martyr") to Scientology father L. Ron Hubbard (who they penned a scathing critique of in Ænima's Grammy-winning title track, declaring "Fuck L. Ron Hubbard and fuck all his clones") and less likely, Bill Hicks, to whom the 1996 album was dedicated and whose voice appears elsewhere on the LP.
