The trio formerly known as Lady Antebellum, and now calling themselves Lady A – aka Hillary Scott (lead and background vocals), Charles Kelley (lead and background vocals, guitar), and Dave Haywood (background vocals, guitar, piano, mandolin) – have been churning out country hits and earning awards since stepping out with their self-titled debut in 2008. Often operating from the poppier end of the country spectrum where adult contemporary takes up residence, the group's winning formula evokes universal themes and their ninth studio album, What a Song Can Do, stayed faithful to that easy-listening promise. For the ninth track on the album, titled "Friends Don't Let Friends," the trio called on the assistance of Carly Pearce, Thomas Rhett, and Darius Rucker for a collaborative effort that goes all-in on the country-pop party sound, worthy of Shania Twain while embracing more unfamiliar electronic textures. The song's central message? "You know friends don't let friends drink alone."
