In one of the 21st-century's most zeitgesty culture-uniting pop videos, "Die for You" shouts out the Netflix sci-fi blockbuster series Stranger Things (also looking back to the 1982 sci-fi classic E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial). Written by The Weeknd in collaboration with a hotshot team of writers, including Canadian songwriters Doc McKinney and Cirkut and star Norwegian producer Cashmere Cat, along with Prince 85, Dylan Wiggins, and Billy Walsh, "Die for You" was originally released as the sixth single from The Weeknd's career-defining 2016 album Starboy but repackaged as a duet with Ariana Grande in 2023 and issued as a shiny new duet, encouraged by renewed interest in the track via TikTok. The remix—which marked the fourth collaboration between Ariana Grande and The Weeknd following "Love Me Harder" (2014), "Off the Table" (2020), and the remix of "Save Your Tears" (2021)—shot to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart in March 2023.
