American Idol contestant Lauren Spencer-Smith released her breakout single “Fingers Crossed" in 2022, going viral on TikTok, and dropped "Flowers" hot on the heels of that success, first whetting the appetite for the song with a snippet on TikTok before unleashing the real deal. On "Flowers," the British-born Canadian singer-songwriter turns her attention to the pain of heartbreak and the end of a bad relationship: "The version of you in my head now I know wasn't true / Young people fall for the wrong people, guess my one was you," she sings on the piano-led ballad, which was co-written and produced by Cian Ducrot. The melancholic track—which went to number 17 on the UK singles chart and also in Canada, and cracked the US Billboard Hot 100—was inspired by an inadequate and toxic past relationship and the realisation that she deserved more.
