The Temptations picked up where they left off with the million-selling success of their first number-one "My Girl" for "My Baby," a 1965 hit single recorded for the Motown (Gordy) label. Written by Miracles members Smokey Robinson, Bobby Rogers, and Pete Moore and produced by Smokey Robinson, "My Baby" was a continuation of the theme from "My Girl"—later made famous in 1991 with the film of the same name—and sees David Ruffin sing the praises of his baby who "has a kiss so sweet, it knocks me off my feet", "hair soft like a baby lamb" and "gold in her personality" that "could set Fort Knox to shame". The infectious track, which was released as a single with "Don't Look Back" on the B-side, was a top 20 pop hit in the US and a top five hit on the R&B charts. It was featured on The Temptations' third studio album for Motown's Gordy subsidiary, The Temptin' Temptations, which also featured the single "Since I Lost My Baby" among others.
