"Will you still love me tomorrow" ask the Shirelles on this 1960 chart-topper and much-loved exploration of sex and the ephemerality of love. As the sixties began to rear their head, the girl group torchbearers broached the subject of sexual liberation in a way that was still largely palatable to a wider audience: "Is this a lasting treasure / Or just a moment's pleasure? Can I believe the magic of your sighs? / Will you still love me tomorrow?" they ponder sweetly. Thanks to the track, the Shirelles became the first Black female group to score a Number 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, which had launched two years earlier. "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" was written by powerhouse husband and wife songwriting duo and Brill Building regulars Gerry Goffin and Carole King and holds elegantly timeless appeal. The Shirelles, who went on to notch up six Top 10 singles, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996.
