Written by songwriters Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich with legendary producer Phil Spector, "Da Doo Ron Ron," also known as "Da Doo Ron Ron (When He Walked Me Home)," was first popularized by the American all-girl vocal group The Crystals in 1963. A bright-eyed boy-meets-girl story, the song was recorded at Phil Spector's Gold Star Studios in Los Angeles and featured his celebrated Wall of Sound style, which included large ensembles of musicians and lush orchestral arrangements. The recording staff included drummer Hal Blaine (of The Wrecking Crew fame) and a young Cher on backing vocals. Shortly after its release in April 1963, The Crystals' version of the song quickly climbed to Number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and even made its way to the UK, where it peaked at Number 5. In later years, "Da Doo Ron Ron" was included in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's "500 Songs That Shaped Rock" and placed at Number 55 on Billboard's 100 Greatest Girl Group Songs of All Time list.
