The Atlanta, Georgia, R&B and funk combo The S.O.S. Band (formerly known as Santa Monica) first grabbed headlines in 1980 with their debut hit single "Take Your Time (Do It Right)," which went to Number 1 on the US R&B charts and propelled its parent album, S.O.S., to Gold status. In the years that followed, the band continued to dish out commercially acclaimed singles such as "High Hopes" (1982), "Just Be Good to Me" (1983), and "Tell Me If You Still Care" (1983), and achieved yet another Gold record with their third album On the Rise (1983). Their fifth LP, Just the Way You Like It, came out in 1984 and, just like the group's two previous outings, was entirely composed by the powerhouse production team of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. It also included the quiet storm song "Weekend Girl," a lavish downtempo duet between Abdul Ra'oof and Mary Davis about a couple of workaholics who could only see each other during the weekends. Though not as successful as the album's title track, "Weekend Girl" peaked at Number 40 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
