"Just Be Good to Me" is a song by the S.O.S. Band, sung by Mary Davis. The band's original name was Sound of Santa Monica but after signing to Tabu Records, the head of the label suggested the Atalanta-based band should think of a new name, since the name had only been chosen because they'd once played a great concert in Santa Monica. They decided on S.O.S. Band standing for Sounds of Success. "Just Be Good to Me" is a synth-heavy funk track produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. The powerhouse songwriting and production team had not yet dominated the airwaves with their work on Janet Jackson's Control album but it's clear something groundbreaking was happening with their production of "Just Be Good to Me." It sounded like nothing else on the radio then and still sounds fresh today.
