It’s a common occurrence in popular music for a song that was originally released by one artist to eventually gain prominence when covered by another. Such was the case with “Fire,” a track first recorded by Bruce Springsteen in 1977 for his album Darkness in the Edge of Town. Originally, Springsteen had written the song with Elvis in mind but The King of Rock'n'Roll passed away before the demo could reach his hands. Though he opted to leave the song off of the album, record producer Richard Perry showed it to the group The Pointer Sisters to record for their 1978 album Energy. With its throwback Ronettes-inspired vibe, the song was a perfect fit for the trio. It was released as a single and hit Number 2 on the Hot 100 in Billboard magazine in February 1979. “Fire” eventually became the group’s first gold single, topping the charts internationally and becoming a major hit for the group. Bruce Springsteen would eventually release his own version of the song as a live cut in 1986.

Would like the deeper male back up vocals. Needs a little depth. But otherwise ok.
