The Platters scored a Top 10 hit with "Only You (And You Alone)" – often shortened to "Only You" – a doo-wop golden oldie that has stood the test of time. Composed by celebrated songwriter Buck Ram, legendary vocal group The Platters first recorded the song on May 20, 1954 for Federal Records but the recording wasn't released and until the following year, when they moved to Mercury Records and re-recorded and re-released the track to great commercial success and acclaim. "Only You (And You Alone)" stuck around at the Number 1 spot on the US R&B charts for seven weeks, as well as peaking at Number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. "Only You (And You Alone)" has been covered by various artists since its conception in the 1950s, including Harry Connick Jr., Brenda Lee, Roy Orbison, Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Brothers, Ringo Starr and amusingly, Alvin and the Chipmunks.
