"What's This?" is the eye-opening moment in The Nightmare Before Christmas when Jack Skellington is shown a rosy-coloured glimpse into a joyful new realm: Christmas Town, and finds out exactly what he's missing out on. The song uses sprightly orchestral leaps to capture the joy of Christmas Town as Jack Skellington exclaims: "The sights, the sounds / They're everywhere and all around / I've never felt so good before." "What's This?" was created by The Nightmare Before Christmas composer Danny Elfman and included on the canonical soundtrack to The Nightmare Before Christmas, which was nominated for Best Original Score at the 1993 Golden Globes and clocked in at number 64 on the US Billboard 200. A covers compilation of the soundtrack, Nightmare Revisited, emerged in 2008 to mark the movie's 15th anniversary, with Texan metallers turning "What's This?" on its head to craft a smouldering rock ballad.
