"Jack's Lament" is a song from the soundtrack of the 1993 stop-motion animated film The Nightmare Before Christmas. Centered around the figure of Jack Skellington, the leader of Halloween Town, the film's main premise follows the main character and his obsession with introducing Christmas to his fellow residents. Just like the rest of the music in the film, the track was written by American composer Danny Elfman, who had previously gained recognition through his work with the new wave band Oingo Boingo in the early 1980s. "Jack's Lament" is a perfect example of the "I Want" song archetype; a very common trope in Disney movies in which the protagonists express both their dissatisfaction with their current life and what they wish to achieve. It was included in the film's soundtrack album, which received a nomination for Best Original Score at the 1993 Golden Globe Awards and peaked at Number 64 on the Billboard 200 chart.
