Formed in 1965, Indiana family group The Jackson 5 were controversially pushed into the spotlight by their notoriously disciplinarian father. They released two singles with Steeltown Records in 1967 before joining the prestigious Motown Records in 1968. What marked their first single for Motown and national debut would become a universally played wedding disco staple in decades to come. Released by Motown in October 1968 "I Want You Back" tells the story of a heartbroken guy longing to win back his love. "Tryin' to live without your love is one long sleepless night / Let me show you, girl, that I know wrong from right / Every street you walk on I leave tear stains on the ground / Following the girl, I didn't even want around / Let me tell you now," sings Michael Jackson in the second verse of this soul-pop favorite. "I Want You Back" shot to Number 1 in January 1970 and was the first chart-topper for the Jackson 5 who became one of the world's biggest pop groups.
