The doo-wop classic "In the Still of the Night" was written by The Five Satins' Fred Parris in 1956. It was recorded in the basement of the Saint Bernadette Catholic School in New Haven, Connecticut. Back then, the group's rhythm section consisted of Doug Murray on bass, Bobby Mapp on drums, and Curlee Glover on piano. The track was released as a single later that year through the Standord label and became a moderate hit for the band after being reissued by Ember, reaching Number 24 on the pop charts and Number 3 on the R&B charts. In the following decades, "In the Still of the Night" gained new life thanks to its inclusion in the soundtrack of the 1987 romantic drama dance film Dirty Dancing, selling over 10 million copies. In 1993, vocal harmony group Boyz II Men recorded an a cappella version of the song for the television miniseries The Jacksons: An American Dream, which peaked at Number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Number 4 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
