"Love Shack" by The B-52's is a new wave-powered comet that became a signature hit for the Athens, Georgia favorites. Stirring up a lively party atmosphere with excitable background chatter, the song pays homage to a cabin in Georgia with a tin roof, where the band wrote "Rock Lobster," while also being plucked from their imagination and open to interpretation. Is it a venue? A lover's meeting spot? The breakdown is one of pop's most dramatic: "You're what?," yells Fred Schneider, as the music suddenly stops. A comeback single for The B-52's following the death of guitarist Ricky Wilson in 1985, "Love Shack" was released as a single in 1989 and featured on the band's fifth studio album Cosmic Thing. It became the first Top 40 hit for The B-52's, reaching Number 3 on the US Billboard Hot 100 while also topping the charts in Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand and reaching Number 2 on the UK Singles Chart.
