LaVerne Sophia, Maxene Anglyn and Patricia Marie "Patty" were The Andrews Sisters: one of the defining singing groups of the big band era who sold an estimated 80 million records. On 1941's "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy," the close harmony trio – who were the living, breathing embodiment of swing music – sing of a celebrated trumpet player from Chicago who is drafted into the US army: "He was a famous trumpet man from out Chicago way / He had a boogie style that no one else could play / He was the top man at his craft / But then his number came up and he was gone with the draft / He's in the army now blowing reveille / He's the boogie woogie bugle boy of Company B," they warble tunefully in the opening. The song – which is a World War II jump blues (an uptempo blues variant) – was written by Don Raye and Hughie Prince and brought into the public consciousness by The Andrews Sisters via the 1941 comedy film Buck Privates. "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" made it to Number 6 on the US pop singles chart.

Excellent bugle instrumentation and pacing. Jazzy but not crazy fast.
