Despite not making the cut for Taylor Swift's fourth studio album Red (2012), "Run" will go down in history as the first song the country-pop star wrote in collaboration with English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran. A romantic song with marked folk influences, "Run" perfectly encapsulates the excitement of the initial infatuation stage in a relationship, that feeling of wanting to run away with someone you just met and leave it all behind. It was written back in 2012 when Taylor Swift visited Ed Sheeran in Seattle for a songwriting session. Ultimately, she opted to leave "Run" out of the album and chose "Everything Has Changed" instead, another Sheeran co-write from the same session. In 2021, following a much-publicized dispute with former label Big Machine over her back catalog, Taylor Swift included the track under the name "Run (Taylor’s Version)" on RED (Taylor’s Version), a re-recording of her 2012 album.
